A metal roofing store — sheet metal, metal tiles, and gutter systems. Migrated from WooCommerce to Shopify, plus a roof calculator that turns the house dimensions into a complete cart.
The situation
Sheet metal isn't sold as a single product — it's sold as a combination: profile, finish, thickness, RAL color. On the old WooCommerce store, the customer was left alone with the hardest part: estimating how much sheet metal, how many gutters, elbows, and screws their roof actually needs. The move to Shopify had to happen without losing the organic traffic built up over time, and without breaking the routes Google was already sending to the product pages.
What we built
We restructured the catalog along the product's real axes — profile, finish, thickness, color — so a single product page covers every variant instead of parallel listings. Photos attach to the correct variant automatically, color by color, via a script that reads the profile, finish, and RAL code from the file name. The Shopify Horizon theme was extended with custom components — a variant picker with swatches in the real metal color, a cart drawer with a free-shipping threshold, predictive search — built as native, theme-editable sections, and every product exposes correct structured data for Google Merchant Center. The centerpiece is the calculator: a Shopify app extension where the customer picks the roof type and metal profile, enters the house dimensions, and gets the full bill of materials — sheet metal, a correctly sized gutter system, accessories, membrane, fasteners — which drops into the cart in the exact order the roof is installed. For the migration, we mapped the old WordPress structure onto Shopify collections and products and checked every route on the live site, catching even a redirect whose target no longer existed.
